Larry Shepard I am told by his niece was a logger who was offered a job to play with the Dobbie Brothers. He actually turned down the job to play with the band because he loved being a logger so much.. So one day he is out walking in the woods and came across a hatchet buried in a tree. Thinking someone must have forgotten it he pried it out and kept walking. A land owner came upon him and asked where he was going with the hand ax. I weren't there so I can't say what words were actually exchanged but unfortunately the land owner put a bullet in Uncle Larry's back when he turned to keep walking. That normally is not what makes logging the most dangerous job there is. This is the tribute song for Larry Shepard. Story was conveyed to me by Heather, Larry's niece who is originally from Northern California. I know her from church so I don't think she would make it up. Why does your dad us a conventional undercut and leave wood on the stump? Why not use a humbolt undercut?

May I suggest, next time, don't play background music during the felling, the saw sound, the cracking as the tree goes over, the swish of brush and leaves, and the thump of hitting earth are all you need for entertainment!
